Paint Correction: Removing Imperfections, Restoring Brilliance

At iCustom Autohouse, we believe your car deserves to look its best. Over time, even the most meticulous owners will notice imperfections appearing on their vehicle's clear coat. These defects—often caused by poor washing techniques, automatic car washes, or environmental exposure—dull the finish and hide the true depth and vibrancy of your paint.

Our Professional Paint Correction service is a multi-stage process designed to permanently remove these defects, restoring your paintwork to a finish that often exceeds its original showroom condition.

What Does Paint Correction Fix?

Paint correction is not just covering up damage; it is a permanent process of skillfully removing microscopic layers of the clear coat to level the surface, thereby eliminating the imperfections within it. We target and permanently remove:

  • 🌀 Swirl Marks: The most common defect, appearing as spiderweb-like scratches, usually caused by improper washing.
  • 🔪 Fine Scratches: Light surface scratches that have not fully penetrated the colour (base) coat.
  • ☁️ Oxidation & Fading: Dullness and haziness caused by prolonged exposure to UV rays and environmental elements.
  • 💧 Water Spots & Etching: Damage caused by hard water mineral deposits that dry and etch into the clear coat.
  • 🍊 Orange Peel Reduction: A texture on the paint that resembles an orange peel; this advanced service can flatten the surface for a mirror-like reflection.

The iCustom Autohouse 4-Stage Correction Process

Our paint correction is a meticulous, time-intensive process that demands expertise and attention to detail. We tailor the steps to the specific type and severity of your car's defects.

Stage 1: Decontamination and Preparation

The foundation of a great correction is a perfectly clean surface.

  • Multi-Stage Wash: A deep clean to remove loose dirt and grime.
  • Chemical Decontamination: Using specialised liquids to dissolve iron particles (industrial fallout) embedded in the paint.
  • Clay Bar Treatment: Using a lubricated clay bar to physically lift and remove bonded surface contaminants like tar and tree sap, leaving the paint surface silky smooth.

Stage 2: Inspection and Planning

  • The vehicle is moved to our controlled detailing bay and inspected under high-intensity LED and specialised detailing lights. This step is critical to reveal all imperfections and determine the appropriate machine, pad, and compound combination needed for safe and effective defect removal.
  • Sensitive trim, rubber, and unpainted plastics are taped off to protect them during the machine polishing stages.

Stage 3: Compounding (The Cut)

  • Using professional Dual Action (DA) or Rotary Polishing Machines with aggressive cutting pads and abrasive compounds, our technicians carefully abrade the surface. This step removes the deepest defects (swirls, heavy scratches) by safely thinning the clear coat to the depth of the imperfection.

Stage 4: Polishing and Refining (The Finish)

  • After compounding, we switch to finer pads and polishing agents. This critical step refines the finish, removes any micro-marring left by the heavier compound, and restores the incredible depth, clarity, and gloss that defines a corrected paint job.

Why Paint Correction is Crucial Before Protection

Paint correction is the required precursor to applying any long-term protective coating (like Ceramic or Graphene). Applying a coating over swirl marks and scratches only magnifies the defects and locks them in place for the duration of the coating's lifespan.

By getting a Paint Correction first, you ensure your chosen protection layer is bonding to a perfectly smooth, defect-free surface, which maximises its:

  • Adhesion: Making the coating last longer.
  • Clarity: Giving you the deepest, clearest shine possible.
